Enter a URL to follow its redirects one hop at a time. Each step shows the status code, and the tool grades the chain and explains what to fix.

About the redirect checker
Follow a URL through every redirect hop by hop and see the status code of each step. This redirect checker (also called a redirect chain tracer) finds redirect loops, chains that are too long, temporary redirects that should be permanent, HTTPS downgrades and destinations that return an error.

Why redirects matter
Every redirect costs the visitor a round trip, and search engines pass less value through long chains. After a migration or an HTTPS switch it is common to end up with http to https to www to a trailing-slash version, each added by a different rule. One direct 301 to the final URL is faster and cleaner.
301, 302, 307 and 308
301 and 308 are permanent: search engines move to the new URL. 302 and 307 are temporary: the old URL stays indexed. 307 and 308 additionally keep the HTTP method, which matters for form posts and APIs. The tool labels each hop and warns when a temporary redirect is used where a permanent one is expected.
Testing HTTP to HTTPS
Start the check with http:// to confirm that your site upgrades to HTTPS in a single step and never falls back to http. Use the result to compare the www and non-www versions and make sure both end on the same canonical address.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check where a URL redirects to?
Enter the URL and press Trace redirects. Each hop is listed with its status code, and the final destination is shown at the end.
What causes the 'too many redirects' error?
A redirect loop: two rules send the visitor back and forth, often an HTTPS rule combined with a CMS or CDN setting. The tool shows which addresses repeat.
What is the difference between a 301 and a 302 redirect?
301 is permanent and passes ranking signals to the new URL. 302 is temporary and tells search engines to keep the original.
How many redirects are too many?
One is normal, two is acceptable, three or more should be collapsed into a single redirect.
